This might be one for my moderately tight travellers. We splurged a little bit on our honeymoon, but it was definitely worth it. Kupu Kupu Barong in Ubud is beautiful.
Roughly translated (according to our wonderful driver Wayan), Kupu Kupu Barong means ‘Butterfly Lion Dance’. This hidden gem is tucked away in the serene forests of Ubud. Off the beaten track, down a steep driveway, and around a corner the grand entrance to Kupu Kupu Barong emerges. Copious amounts of friendly staff ready to greet us, even at midnight which is when we arrived from the airport.
Check-in was easy and the view from our room was simply stunning. It was clean and quiet but the roosters next door were early risers, so that meant we were too!
The free shuttle into Ubud didn’t take long and was a comfortable ride, and I wouldn’t recommend expecting to get very far on foot, unless you’re up for a significant stroll. There’s not much around aside from a couple of CircleKs and Indomarts, which are great for grabbing a snack.
If you jump into a car with a driver, then everything feels relatively close. The Elephant Safari Park Lodge, Uma Pakel Swing, Ubud Monkey Forest and the Tegalalang Rice Terraces were all within half an hours drive which mades for a great morning!
Overall Kupu Kupu Barong Villas are definitely a great place for a honeymoon, and will sadly be our last splurge for a while.
